Sal Marchetti

Sal is the man behind the counter at The Electric Connection, the electronics shop in the middle of Ohmsville's strip. He has been behind it since the shop opened, which means he sold Ray the 150-in-1 and, ten years later, sold half the town the 200-in-1. He answered a card in the window the week the shop opened and never came back out from behind the counter. He arrived knowing none of it: he took a 150-in-1 off the shelf that first week and worked the manual front to back, because he had a wall of parts behind him and did not yet know which drawer did what. That kit is still under the counter. What he knows after it he learned off the customers, which is why he counts the second asking as the useful one. He knows which project in the manual is the one people get stuck on. He does not mind being asked the same question twice, and he will hand you a part and a number rather than a speech: nine volts across a hundred ohms is ninety milliamps, and a quarter-watt resistor cannot lose that much heat. He is the guide in the StoryBrand frame, and he is never the hero — you are the one who builds it.
